Real acceleration.

Student ownership. Increased educator morale. Exponential growth.

What’s the problem?

Education is facing unprecedented challenges. The pandemic has created and exacerbated students’ academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. Adults are worried, heightening emotions and urgency for answers. Educators are working harder, burning out, and some are even abandoning the profession they love.

What is AutonoMY Learning?

AutonoMY Learning is a mindset. It’s not an add on, it’s a shift that instills intrinsic motivation to learn. Coaches empower YOUR school through research-based strategies combined with intentional language to create confident, curious, self-driven learners.

Research and experience both show that extrinsic rewards and consequences only bring cooperation, not internal drive - and only as long as they continue being applied. That’s more work, and not actually effort put into learning.

Autonomy - the ability and belief in oneself to make choices - builds internal motivation. Intrinsically motivated people set goals, highly achieve, and have a greater sense of satisfaction with their lives.

Our coaching sessions and workshops excite, equip, and empower teachers and students with the tools that build agency, confidence and self-advocacy so that it becomes an internal dialogue and identity. When autonomy becomes part of who they are, THAT’S the key.

We no longer do all the work - they not only do it, but crave it. That’s the answer: individuals who want learning for themselves!

  • Transform and Elevate Classroom Learning.

  • The Foundation: A positive learning culture.

Our training helps educators re-ignite their passion for teaching. Teachers will be equipped to create space where students take the initiative to contribute their ideas and value the contributions of their peers. Our language creates an environment that emphasizes the importance of effort and perseverance. We help educators design structures that lead students to feel safe, independently take risks, and challenge themselves and each other.

  • The Building Blocks: Resources that can be used with any age or material.

In our sessions, educators build three types of statements with AutonoMY facilitators. Supportive statements communicate acceptance and belief, identity statements urge dependent learners towards independence, and perspective statements connect students to their community. These types of intentional language promote trusting academic and socio-emotional relationships. In addition, each type of statement is presented with content specific routines that spur student agency.

  • The Payoff: Self-sustaining Improvement.

Teachers are inspired to immediately implement tools. Changing educator language isn’t an additional thing on teachers’ plates, and the payoff - independent learners - actually gives teachers’ more time to design elevated learning experiences. Students who drive their own learning are confident, ready to take on challenge, which promotes high levels of learning and achievement. Long term retention means less time remediating and bridging gaps.

“I now know my effort is what I need to learn, its what drives me to my goal. If I’m not putting in the effort, there will be no learning.”
