Tell them they’re powerful…

Try this. When your students are stuck, remind them they get to choose the next step. Remind them that’s why they are POWERFUL.

The next word in the sentence is theirs. The next calculation they try. The next question they ask.

Those are learner POWER.

Don’t minimize it, maximize it. They will start looking at their choices differently too.

They will be more intentional.

They will feel more responsible.

And if they don’t like their first choice? Guess what…they are the powerful ones that decided they didn’t like it. And they can choose differently.
